Today We Introduce You To Marissa from Rae Gun

Q: What motivated you to start your shop?
My sister found out she was pregnant with a little girl. After sewing some items for the new baby my friends, in the way friends do said I should open a shop, so I did.

Q: What is the story behind your shop name?
I thought the name Rae Gun would be a fun baby name you know like the awesome geeky weapon but after thinking it sounded too much like the trendy Reagan name I thought it would be a fun shop name.

Q: Do you have a favorite Etsy Shop (non-child related)?
PrettyLittleCharmsUK hands down! Super awesome bookish jewellery I have like 6 pieces from her and was just thinking of ordering more.

Q: What surprised you most about having your own craft / online shop?
Just that it was an option. When I was in college I never even considered fashion design, let alone having my own business. The internet is a fancy thing I tell you. The opportunities are just so different than just 10 years ago.

Q: What do you find most challenging about being an Etsy seller?
The emails and convos. Some times it feels like they are non-stop and I just want to get back to sewing. And while most people are nice, I think the fact that it's online and people are separated from you makes those that are more prone to jerkiness whip it out faster than they would face to face.

Q: What's your personal philosophy behind your shop / products?
I only make things I enjoy making and that I'd put on my own future kids. I love modern items with a vintage flair so that is reflected in my work.

Q: How would someone (other then you) describe you?
Busy, haha. Unfortunately I work 10-14 hour days 6-7 days a week. It's a bit crazy.

Q: What music do you have on while you are creating?
I listen to a lot of audiobooks but The Lazy Waves are one of my favorite bands for working to. Their stuff is free for download on bandcamp at

Q: What do you do when you aren't working?
Read. I'm a YA fiction fanatic. Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Divergent, the list goes on and on. One of my new favorite things is going to book signings. If any of you are bookish you can befriend me on Goodreads at

Q: Anything else you'd like to tell us or share?
I blog a lot. You can see what I'm up to at
