Kids in the Kitchen - Thanksgiving Treats

Posted Tuesday, November 24, 2009

Thanksgiving is just about here and the kitchen will soon be the gathering place for family & friends to eat, laugh & share what they're thankful for!

It's usually the moms & dads, grandmas, grandpas, aunts & uncles and all the other adults who are busily preparing the day's meal, but let's not forget that the little ones can help make fun Thanksgiving treats too!

Family Fun has a wealth of excellent Turkey Day goodies & crafts that your children would love to create! Check out this gobbly good treat:

Edible Indian Corn Treats
Ingredients & Supplies Needed:
4 TB Butter
4 Cups Mini Marshmallows
5 Cups Puffed Corn Cereal
1/3 Cup Assorted Dried Fruit pieces (Papaya, Raisins, Apricots & Craisins)
Popsicle sticks
Fruit Leather

Instructions:
1. In a large pot, melt butter and mini marshmallows over low heat (about 5 minutes).
2. Remove the mixture from the stove and use a wooden spoon to stir in puffed corn cereal and diced dried fruit. Allow the mixture to cool for about 10 minutes.
3. Using buttered hands, shape each treat by pressing 1/3 cup of the mixture around a Popsicle stick. Add fruit leather husks to the bottom of the ear, slightly moistening them to help them stick if needed. Makes 15 treats.

Indian corn treats. Wow! What a cute snack craft. No doubt kids will be eating more than making. But thats ok they will be using some their senses for this edible craft. I'll have to make this with my granddaughter. Thanks
