EllaLeneDesigns has been selling on Etsy since November 2014, they sell fun and affordable clothes for toddlers! Today they are going to give us a little peak behind the scenes of their Etsy shop.


What motivated you to start your shop?
I was motivated to start my shop by my two year old twins, Colin and Ella.  I started sewing as a hobby and then started making a few things for them including some simple skirts and vests as well as rodeo outfits :) We are from Houston, Texas. I really enjoyed it and decided to start creating new things and trying to sell them!  I absolutely love picking out new fabrics and trying new things. Everything I've learned about sewing, I've learning from my mom and taught myself the rest!  My mom sewed a lot of our clothes growing up and my grandmother loves quilting.  She made my baby quilt and baby quilts for my twins!

What is the story behind your shop name?
My shop name is Ella Lene Designs, name after my daughter Ella Lene.  My children are my greatest inspiration!  Ella is my "model" and loves to pose for pictures for me!  I'm working to get Colin into the "modeling".

What surprised you most about having your own craft / online shop?
It's not just sewing!  There are so many other things to do!  From business licenses, tax permits, compliance for children's clothes, and the list goes on!  I really love to sew so I don't mind doing the rest of the administrative part.  I have a business degree in Accounting, my MBA, and my CPA license and worked in the corporate world for 10 years before I had my twins.

What is your favourite creations from your shop?
I LOVE to make my ruffled skirts and honestly, I love coming up with new things to make.  It is a great challenge for me to try new clothes.

What do you find most challenging about being an Etsy seller?
SEO and promotion!  Those things are key to being successful!

What's your personal philosophy behind your shop / products?
My personal philosophy behind my shop and products is to create fun AND affordable clothes for toddlers that are made with quality.  I hand sew every piece in my shop and it is important that all my customers, especially the little ones, are happy!

What do you do when you aren't working?
When I am not sewing, I am taking care of my two year old twins and my one year old niece!

Anything else you'd like to tell us or share?
I truly feel like I have found my passion and I love what I do.

Today we would like to introduce you to

Etsy shop myfunnyclothes

myfunnyclothes has been on Etsy since November 2013, but opened their store at the start of the year. They sell harem pants for all ages. Today they are going to give us a little peak behind the scenes of their Etsy shop.


What motivated you to start your shop?
Hello, my name is Esther, I was born in Spain but have travelled extensively, and I spent a long period of time in Argentina, Brazil, France and the USA.
Currently I live in Montana in a cute, very creative, young and enthusiastic town, with my husband and my 5 year old child.
I have always been very creative and have learnt to paint, create seed jewelry, macramé and different styles of cooking from all over the world.
I learned to sew in Spain many years ago, I spent two years studying dressmaking. I learnt to sewing for dolls, but found it was not so much my thing so I decided put my formal studying on hold.
But I continued sewing for myself, my family and friends.
Then a friend gave me a magic overlook sewing machine and .... how amazing this machine is! It encouraged me to start sewing again and I started to produce my signature harem pants. I decided to start promoting my harem pants to my co-workers, friends and am now also selling my designs in two boutiques in my village.
I find my sewing is the perfect combination with my current job, teaching in a elementary school.

What is the story behind your shop name?
I like to create different things, with many colors for kids and fun stuff as labels or unequal ways. Therefore Myfunnyclothes.

What surprised you most about having your own craft / online shop?
I like the idea of creating what you like and to have a space where I can share with others, and that people like what you do.

What is your favourite creations from your shop?
 I couldn't pick just one, each piece I create comes from a new idea, I create them in my personal time, and simply creating my pieces is a great enjoyment for me.

What do you find most challenging about being an Etsy seller?
I find the relationship between Etsy and social networking a bit strange and difficult at time.

What's your personal philosophy behind your shop / products?
Always support handmade and I look for the best quality-price ration when selecting my fabrics so that my pieces are affordable, comfortable and fun.

Anything else you'd like to tell us or share?
I am so excited to be part of the EtsyKids Team, I believe in my creations and I want a share with you. I hope you like it.

Etsy shop Re-nest Studio

Re-nest Studio has been selling on Etsy since July 2012, they sell beautiful  yet simple collection of customized and unique home decor for childrens' spaces and parents' places! Today they are going to give us a little peak behind the scenes of their Etsy shop.


What motivated you to start your shop?
Ever since I can remember, I've been artistic and crafty...which all began at a young age, spending summers with my grandparents. My grandmother taught me from an early age to create, and this always stuck with me. After moving into our home in 2008, and being met with the challenge of decorating a new space, I looked and looked for the style and feel of decor I wanted to add to my home, and just wasn't finding it...so I decided to make it! This evolved into a huge focus on children's decor after the birth of my first son in 2009, and after having a small collection of pieces to offer, I opened re-nest studio in July 2012!

What is the story behind your shop name?
Professionally, my background is in marketing and advertising, so when it came to starting my Etsy shop, I put a heavy emphasis on the name because I knew it would ultimately be my brand.
I've always believed that a home is a sanctuary - a nest - it's the place where your family gathers, there's warmth, closeness, and comfort there. These were the feelings I wanted to express through my name. The term ""re-nest"" comes from the idea that your home decor should also feel flexible - that pieces can be used in various areas of the home, and you shouldn't feel locked in to keeping one piece of decor in the same place for as long as you own it.
I am fortunate enough to have a very generous brother-in-law (who also happens to be in the advertising world!).

What is your favourite creations from your shop?
This would be a two-way tie for me! I absolutely love when an order comes through for my special dates wall art. This was actually born out of the need for an anniversary present for my husband one year, and I love that my fans will share with me the special dates that mean so much to their family, in the same spirit that I created this piece.
My other very favorite piece is my special delivery canvas wall art, which just means that there has been a new baby come into the world. I am always so honored to be asked to have one of my pieces be a part of such a special place in the home, and to be able to create a true keepsake for parents with the baby's name, birthday, time of birth, height and weight, is such a special, special opportunity!

What do you find most challenging about being an Etsy seller?
The element I find most challenging about being an Etsy seller is finding the sweet spot for pricing my pieces, and really communicating that my pieces are truly handmade to order - on canvas with acrylic and paper art. This has become a bit more challenging with the number of printables sellers that have come into the market, where a similar size and theme of piece can be purchased for a lower cost.

What's your personal philosophy behind your shop / products?
I love personalization. I'm all about it, and that's truly what my pieces are about - whether it's adding a baby's name, or someone's monogram, or even just matching colors and patterns within a home, I think having something that is truly personalized to you and your family is such a gift. And, I love being able to provide that kind of service and creativity!

What do you do when you aren't working?
When am I not working?!? Outside of re-nest studio, I do work full-time outside of the home as a marketing and communications manager, and I am an active volunteer for my oldest son's school and for Big Brothers Big Sisters of DeKalb County. But, when I truly am not working, I'm with my husband and our two young boys. We love just being together - whether it's spending time outdoors in the spring/summertime, or having movie/picnic nights on our family room floor, it's just about being together.
