Introducing little girl Pearl

Posted Thursday, June 14, 2012

Today We Introduce You To Melissa from little girl Pearl

Q: What motivated you to start your shop?
My daughter! I went into a quilting shop with my Mom one day, and spied some Amy Butler fabrics. Inspired to pull out my old sewing machine from college, I grabbed a cute pattern, some adorable Alexander Henry fabric, and went to work one day to make her a cute little pant set for an upcoming wedding. I had been buying second hand designer duds on ebay, but after completing my first handmade garment for my daughter, piping and all, I was hooked. The fabric stash grew into an obsession, and when people started coming up to me and asking me where my I got those fabulous clothes for my daughter, "little girl Pearl" was born.

Q: What is the story behind your shop name?
My daughter's middle name is Pearl, after my paternal grandmother. It seemed an obvious choice for my business. She is my little girl Pearl!

Q: Do you have a favorite Etsy Shop (non-child related)?
I have several favorite etsy shops. I wear jewelry from my friend Erica Walker of WalkerSilverworks.etsy.com on a daily basis, and enameled wonders from Lia at bullfinchbarbury.etsy.com. But there are others I love just as much!

Q: What surprised you most about having your own craft / online shop?
Something that has always amazed me is the reach of etsy! I have had buyers from all over the world... Australia, Norway, Thailand, Singapore, France, Italy, and from most regions of the U.S.. To me, there is nothing that surprises me more than that.

Q: What do you find most challenging about being an Etsy seller?
The most challenging aspect is finding time for it all. I can tell you, ashamedly, that my house is a bit of a disaster. Alas...

Q: What's your personal philosophy behind your shop / products?
My personal philosophy is that I want my craftsmanship and enthusiasm to shine through my designs. I adore what I do. I get so excited when I have a whole day in my studio to "play" with color and pattern. I am thrilled when one of my customers takes as much delight in my designs as I do. And I am very proud of the extra time and care that I put into each and every dress. Piping and all!

Q: How would someone (other then you) describe you?
They would describe me as being full of dichotomies. Driven, yet laid back. Introverted, yet personable. Opinionated, yet amenable.

Q: What music do you have on while you are creating?
The music I listen to is very dependent on my mood. I've been known to crank up the volume on Miles Davis' "Bitches Brew" when working with the sweetest of pink fabrics...talk about a dichotomy!! I love jazz, but I've been listening to the National, an alternative rock group quite a bit. But my absolute favorite thing to listen to while working is the BOSTON RED SOX! I'm a diehard fan, and because we don't have a TV, I listen to them on the radio when I work in the evenings...nothing better! Especially when they win!

Q: What do you do when you aren't working?
When I'm not sewing, I'm flying. I'm a flight attendant for Delta Airlines, and travel all over the world for my job. I've been doing it for 20 years, and still love it. I don't have a particular route, but lately have been flying to Amsterdam a lot. Best place for bicycling in the world (because it's flat!). On my London layover I was able to catch a show in the West End. What a life!

Q: Anything else you'd like to tell us or share?
I'm so grateful for having my daughter who keeps me on my toes on a daily basis. I'm grateful to be surrounded by family and friends who support my endeavors. I'm grateful to be able to CREATE!

Introducing Pholkart Blessings

Posted Thursday, June 07, 2012

Today We Introduce You To Patti from Pholkart Blessings

Q: What motivated you to start your shop?
I started my shop back when my sons were still in their teens and I knew they’d soon be moving on toward college and the work world. I realized at that point that I wanted to begin transitioning myself toward “something art related” that would give me a sense of satisfaction and joy. I had filled up many sketchbooks over the years with cute, kid-friendly illustrations, and, when I learned about Etsy, I thought it would be so much fun to share my artwork there!
Q: What is the story behind your shop name?
I fell in love with children’s illustration when my sons were little! And as a result, I spent hours and hours teaching myself to draw. I thought the name “Pholkart” was appropriate for me since, like a folk artist, I’m entirely self-taught. The “Blessings” part of my shop name simply grew from my desire to share art that focused on the good things, the simple blessings of life. Thus, PholkartBlessings was born.
Q: Do you have a favorite Etsy Shop (non-child related)?
Gosh!... There are so many! I tend to love whimsical, colorful, humorous artwork. DudaDaze, Whimsy Studios, and ButtUglee are shops I enjoy visiting over and over again!
Q: What surprised you most about having your own craft / online shop?
I would have to say the ongoing learning curve that having a successful shop requires. Not only do I need to create quality artwork I’m happy to place in my shop… I also need to learn to present my work to the world in an appealing and continuing way. I am still learning a lot about promoting my artwork through my blog and by networking through social media sites.
Q: W hat do you find most challenging about being an Etsy seller?
A couple of things really stand out. While I LOVE working from home, there are times (like when my husband travels) when I can feel isolated. My lab, Winnie, is a pretty good studio buddy… but once in a while I’d love to have another Etsy artist in town to grab coffee with and compare shop notes.
The second thing that is hard for me is dealing with discouragement. There can be times when not many customers visit my shop or purchase my artwork. During those times, I have found there is a lot of value in reminding myself that my job is just to show up in the studio each day, no matter how I’m feeling, and keep making art!
Q: What's your personal philosophy behind your shop / products?
I love that I can be an artist who creates my own original designs and then offer them directly to buyers who enjoy them! I get to set a warm, friendly, positive tone in my shop. I’m the one-and-only person creating the artwork and helping the customer, and I find that very satisfying!
Q: How would someone (other then you) describe you?
Quiet, friendly, creative, and resourceful. I enjoy living a very simple life and I love being with my family.
Q: What music do you have on while you are creating?
This may be surprising, but I don’t listen to music while I’m creating. My husband and I both work from home, and we find we both concentrate best in a quiet environment. The “music” I most often hear while creating is the swish-swish of the washer and the hum of the dryer! ;)
Q: What do you do when you aren't working?
I’ve always loved to draw, so I doodle in my sketchbook anytime just for fun! I have decorated our old bungalow in “Design on a Dime” style and find that to be very creative and satisfying! I’m learning to knit & crochet (nothing very fancy yet!). My husband and I love to hang out together with our lovable lab and watch movies in the evening. And, as often as we are able to, we spend time enjoying our two grown sons and their families.
Q: Anything else you'd like to tell us or share?
I feel very blessed to be able to stay at home and do what I love to do every day! I have “met” so many talented people online through the Etsy community who have generously shared their knowledge and experience with me. And I hope I can continue to pass along the support and help and encouragement that I have been given.

Introducing Pish Posh Creations

Posted Thursday, May 31, 2012

Today We Introduce You To Dana from Pish Posh Creations

Q: What motivated you to start your shop?
My mother in law bought me my first sewing machine right before my first son was born. At the time I thought I would just mess around with it to fix hems and make a few throw pillows. But it was such a rush seeing what I made that it became more and more of what can I do next. Next thing I knew family and friends were asking me to make something for them or for a gift they needed. It kind of just blossomed from there. I've never looked back since.

Q: What is the story behind your shop name?
I was looking for something that was fun, whimsical, and sounded kid friendly. Then one day something my grandmother, who I adored, used to say popped in my head. "Oh, Pish Posh!" She used the term as meaning either, "Don't bother" or "That's absurd!". But despite the meaning I fell in love with it. I felt that it would've made her proud knowing that she inspired me to use her favorite term as something positive. Originally, I wanted to just use Pish Posh, but pishposh.com was already taken and I wanted something that I could use as my website address so the Creations was added.

Q: Do you have a favorite Etsy Shop (non-child related)?
I have too many to name and would hate leaving any of them out so I'm just going to plead the 5th on this question and say them all! :)

Q: What surprised you most about having your own craft / online shop?
The thing that surprised me most about having my own etsy shop and website was that it has become so successful. What I see as a creative outlet, a passion, or you could even say my designing getaway, others see as the piece that they've been searching for. To truly see them enjoy what I have to offer is my own little sewing HIGH!

Q: What do you find most challenging about being an Etsy seller?
Finding time to manage my business. Since I'm the sole proprietor of Pish Posh Creations I'm the designer, creator, photographer, writer, customer service, inventory stockman, shipper, etc. And that is all on top of running a household of 3 kids and a husband. (OK, we'll say 4 kids- HA)

Q: What's your personal philosophy behind your shop / products?
I do not sell anything that I wouldn't buy for myself. It has to be high quality and really make a statement. I'm not one to work in an assembly line making 10 of the same items. I enjoy making things different then the one before. Yes, it takes a lot longer, but it is so worth the wait.

Q: How would someone (other then you) describe you?
OH, this is a good question! Um... I would say people think I'm friendly, bubbly, helpful, there when you need me and there when it really counts. That I'm an honest person, therefore I don't steal ideas from other companies or sellers. What I make comes straight from my imagination.

Q: What music do you have on while you are creating?
I love my itunes! I set it on shuffle and crank it up! On even given day you will hear me rocking to anything from Third Day to NickelBack to Katy Perry to Michael Jackson to LMFAO to Rascal Flats to Black Eyed Peas and then to Jeremy Camp.

Q: What do you do when you aren't working?
Is there such a thing as not working (creating)? I do like to read and go to the gym. However, while I'm at the gym I'm daydreaming of the next big thing to create so I guess that doesn't count. Ha

Q: Anything else you'd like to tell us or share?
I truly LOVE the life I live! I have an amazing husband that has a great job so that I can have the freedom and flexibility to stay at home. My 3 boys are now all in school so it makes it easier to work sewing during the day. My nights are a different story because every night is either a practice, game, or club meeting for one of them so I'm a taxi service from 5:00 on. Another thing about me that separates me from most people is that I'm an aunt to QUADRUPLETS! They are so much fun to be around, but also so exhausting, 3 boys and 1 girl now age 8. I really don't see how my sister can do it! You go sis! One other thing that I'm pretty proud of is having one of my crib beddings featured on the Discovery Channel. It was featured on the TV show 17 Kids and Counting (now known as 19 Kids and Counting). We used to live near where the Duggar Family lives and they purchased one of my bedding sets for baby #18. It was so neat seeing one of my creations on TV!

Introducing Ali Bean Baby

Posted Thursday, May 24, 2012

Today We Introduce You To Kari from Ali Bean Baby

Q: What motivated you to start your shop?
2 ½ years ago, after living out of the country for 6 years, my husband and I were at a change-point and were both looking for work in a very changed economy. One of my daughter’s-in-law encouraged me to start making little girl dresses to sell on Etsy. It was something I could “do”, but I had “been there, done that” with a couple of sewing-based businesses, and I really wasn’t interested in sewing and selling. But then we went to visit our little grand-daughter for the 1st time and I made her two pillowcase dresses. Rachel, my DIL, and I looked for fabric together and I loved what we found and how they turned out! So I returned home and for the fun of it, and to satisfy Rachel, I opened an Etsy shop and listed them, and to my surprise and excitement they slowly started selling. The two original dresses continue to be good sellers, with the original photos of my grand-daughter when she was 7 months old!

Q: What is the story behind your shop name?
My grand-daughter’s name is Ali, and her mom and dad and brother call her “Beaner”. So AliBeanBaby was a perfect fit!

Q: Do you have a favorite Etsy Shop (non-child related)?
I don’t have a favorite one – but I love looking for shops that have unique items, or things my hubby and I can’t make. Examples would be the barefoot lace sandals from dachuksb7196’s shop in Latvia; and Me & the Boy, both their name and their bath items.

Q:W hat surprised you most about having your own craft / online shop?
I have had a few good surprises. One was that I was able to let AliBeanBaby develop bit by bit without feeling pressured to have it all in place before I started. Another was that one of my initial objections to starting this kind of business was that I didn’t want to make items just for the sake of selling them, but I wanted to make items FOR someone. And with an on-line shop I have been able to that, one order at a time. And, I don’t need a large inventory -- I can have as many or few fabrics and supplies on hand as I want, and can try something out and it if doesn’t sell I can try something different.

Q: What do you find most challenging about being an Etsy seller?
It is challenging not having consistency with sales. Sometimes it is crazy-busy and sometimes there are no sales at all. Initially this was more challenging, but now I have fun with the busy times, and use the slower times to work on new items. Or just take a break. Another challenge, which is also a good thing, is the size of Etsy, and finding how to connect a little more personally. That has happened somewhat with EtsyKids.

Q: What's your personal philosophy behind your shop / products?
I wanted to have clothes that were quality made, able to be custom fit, and affordable, and yet eye-catching and fun. That meant that the designs needed to be simple to make. I started sewing at a young age and didn’t like the way patterns were put together, and instructions always confused me so I started making my own patterns. Being able to do my own patterning has helped me to be able to keep the construction time down so that I can keep the items within the price range I want.

Q: How would someone (other then you) describe you?
I had no idea how to answer this, so asked a friend. Creative, multi-tasking, interested in many, many things, precise and thoughtful, not static.

Q: What music do you have on while you are creating?
Mostly I listen to contemporary Christian music and contemporary instrumental.

Q: What do you do when you aren't working?
I started working a 30-hour-a-week “job” in August so with that and AliBeanBaby I don’t have a much non-work time. I do enjoy cooking, it’s a great way for me to “center” when things are busy or chaotic, and both my hubby and I like a wide variety of foods, so we are always trying new things and have fun working together in the kitchen. We also spend the warmer months of the year finding new places to walk, being out in as much nature as we can find in the city. And, we love being with our grandkids when we can!

Q: Anything else you'd like to tell us or share?
I have 5 sons, and Ali was my 1st granddaughter, so I really didn’t have any experience in little girl’s fashion. My DIL Rachel’s input on styles and fabrics is really what has created AliBeanBaby’s “brand”. I don’t feel so un-experienced now, and do have input, but still rely heavily on her thoughts and ideas. We live in different parts of the country, so we have done it all long-distance – with a lot of skyping! It’s been great fun to work with her!

Introducing C Cooper Designs

Posted Thursday, May 17, 2012

Today We Introduce You To Cheryl From C Cooper Designs

Q: What motivated you to start your shop?
I started my Etsy shop when I first heard about the site. I wanted a place where I could share my love of sewing and design.

Q: What is the story behind your shop name?
The business name came from a business name my Mother and I had when we sewed and designed bridal wear, Collins-Cooper. When I changed direction in my sewing business I decided on “c.cooper designs” which still represents my maiden name and my married name.

Q: Do you have a favorite Etsy Shop (non-child related)?
I have several shops that I really like on Etsy. One of them is SoManyColors for some beautifully hand dyed scarfs.

Q: What surprised you most about having your own craft / online shop?
The positive compliments that I get.

Q: What do you find most challenging about being an Etsy seller?
One of the most difficult things for me has been getting traffic to my shop. I have much work to do in this area.

Q: What's your personal philosophy behind your shop / products?
I love to sew and I love to be creative. It's important to me to give my customers a quality product. Every item in my shop is one of a kind with quality fabrics carefully chosen and with professional construction.

Q: How would someone (other then you) describe you?
artistic, fun-loving, caring

Q: What music do you have on while you are creating?
I actually love a variety of music, so it varies...soft rock, reggae, pop, etc.

Q: What do you do when you aren't working?
Spend time with my family and my girls (dogs), gardening and a variety of art projects.

Q: Anything else you'd like to tell us or share?
Recently my daughter, Abigail Cooper has joined me in sewing for c.cooper designs. She is very creative and talented and is a very valuable addition to our shop. And we have a great time together.

Introducing Wild Things Funky Little Dresses

Posted Thursday, May 10, 2012

Today We Introduce You To Kristy from
Wild Things Funky Little Dresses

Q: What motivated you to start your shop? / What is the story behind your shop name?
I’m a mum of three living in the heart of the rural Lancashire hills in the UK with a career in fashion designing childrenswear, products, and fabrics for UK retailers for many years, as well as fashion lecturing. After the arrival of my youngest, and third little ‘wild thing’, Lila, I decided to go it alone to spend more time with them. Wild Things Funky Little Dresses just evolved, and grew organically really, after buying some small lengths of gorgeous fabric with a desire to make something to inspire my daughters. I guess it’s in my blood now to do this as I started making anything and everything at a very young age, back in the crafty 70’s, and then into the avant garde 80’s when as a teenager it was the only way to be ‘different". It was my late grandma, Florence who inspired me, with her huge walk in wardrobe of gowns and hats, and a sewing box full of goodies, and of course my mum who showed me how to work through paper patterns at an early age. I guess if I wasn’t outside playing, I was inside making things. Now it’s my children who inspire me. Their love to dress up, and their playful imagination, coupled with my love for simple bold colour and imagery, and Scandinavian simplicity, gave me a starting point. I love simple shape and pattern, which translate beautifully on to simple A-line shapes for dresses and macs (=raincoat). The range includes animal creature dresses (fox), ’picture’ dresses (rainbow), and contemporary print dresses. The character dresses have been hugely successful as they offer a high quality contemporary alternative to the dress up clothes little ones love to wear.

Q: What's your personal philosophy behind your shop / products?
I believe your little ones should have fun, feed their imagination, and love the clothes they wear." I think the simple print, colour ,pattern and whimsical imagery, as well as their practical versatility, make Wild Things Funky Little Dresses irresistible to children and style conscious parents alike. I’m trying to create clothes which are loved by children and adults alike ,help promote play, and evoke a sense of fun. I also believe in reviving skills passed down for generations which have been almost lost through over mass production. I’m very proud to be producing here in the UK too.

Q: What surprised you most about having your own craft / online shop?
Selling online has been the biggest learning curve for me. It was something which made me step outside my comfort zone, but I’ve found an amazing network of supportive like minded businesses makers and designers out there. Thanks to all of you!!

Q: What do you find most challenging about being an Etsy seller?
Of course dealing with individual customers can be a challenge, but it’s a pleasure to do when you receive such lovely responses and stories of the dresses being worn. I also love the idea of selling globally to a niche market, which makes personal contact all the more worthwhile and rewarding.

Q: Do you have a favorite Etsy Shop (non-child related)?
http://www.etsy.com/shop/Ninainvorm
http://www.etsy.com/people/DollsAndDaydreams
Thanks to both Nina (ninainvorm), and Sarah ( dollsanddaydreams) for endless mutual support, and for being such prolific creators themselves.

Q: How would someone (other then you) describe you?
Tenacious, passionate, determined!

Q: What music do you have on while you are creating?
I tend to listen to the radio whilst I’m working, especially late at night. (BBC Radio 2). I like being entertained and listening to the variety good radio throws at you.

Q: What do you do when you aren't working?
I live in a beautiful part of the world in the heart of the Lancashire Hills in the North West of England, so we have beautiful unspoilt countryside on our doorstep. I like nothing more than to spend a day exploring the ‘fairy woods’ behind our home with the children and the dog.

Q: Please tell us a little about the children's items market / handmade movement in your Country?
The UK childrenswear market tends to be saturated with over complicated, over designed co ordinated childrenswear, but which lacks a fresh approach. I’m trying to offer a fun but contemporary alternative. ‘Handmade’ has become a big thing here in the UK over recent years, which has provided fantastic opportunities for small makers to showcase their work to a hungry audience who are looking for something with a story and a bit of soul. There seems not to be a platform as consistent and up to the minute as etsy to allow makers to sell their work in the UK.

Introducing Chichiboulie

Posted Thursday, May 03, 2012

Today We Introduce You To Gretchen from Chichiboulie

Q: What motivated you to start your shop?
Chichiboulie began on a bit of a whim after creating my oldest daughter's birthday invites 7+ years ago. A friend had said to me a long time before and in a completely different context "fake it 'til you make it" and so that's what I did and set up shop that day though I'd never sold my artwork in the past! I had, however, always loved drawing and with 2 little ones at home, I didn't want to work outside of the home. Chichiboulie allowed me to get paid to do something I love while working from home. It was just perfect!

Q: What is the story behind your shop name?
Ah ha! I get asked that a lot. Chichiboulie is actually one of the pet names my husband calls me. I suspect the "chichi" bit came about from an evolution of the French words "chérie" and "chieuse". I'll let you look up that last one for anyone curious enough. The "boulie" is completely and totally random! It just seemed to fit the light-hearted, fun attitude behind the art I was creating at that time.

Q: Do you have a favorite Etsy Shop (non-child related)?
One favourite??? Is that possible? I have so many favourite Etsy shops I couldn't possible choose just one. At the moment, I really love these among so many others: http://www.etsy.com/shop/camelliatune?ref=seller_info http://www.etsy.com/listing/91365018/maria-severyna-black-and-cream-striped http://www.etsy.com/shop/CaractacusPots?ref=seller_info http://www.etsy.com/shop/EarthwareClay?ref=seller_info

Q: What surprised you most about having your own craft / online shop?
Learning how much I hate bookkeeping considering the amount of financial work I did in my past life as a fashion buyer. But besides that, I think the most pleasant surprise was the feeling of community. Although I work from home in my little studio by myself, I don't feel cut off from the world as there are so many opportunities out there for communication, support, advice, friendship even online. A less pleasant surprise, though one that is very important, is realising what a small fish in a big pond you can be. Things move so fast and there are truly so many incredibly talented people out there, it can get very competitive at times. But competition does often lead to creation so it's all good in the end and pushes me to learn new techniques and improve my art and products.

Q: What do you find most challenging about being an Etsy seller?
Since I started selling on Etsy, my priorities have changed so at the moment I feel pretty laid-back about my Etsy selling. Definitely more so than in the past! In the past I think I could get overwhelmed by the amount and level of talent out there and by trying to figure out how to make my mark in all of that. I feel more settled now and feel like I've found my niche.

Q: What's your personal philosophy behind your shop / products?
I don't think I've ever really thought of this in a concrete way, but since you've asked, I would have to say that for me Chichiboulie represents playfulness and the happiness that can be seen in our children. I tend to think of it like a warm, sunny, summer's day. Besides that, I do strive to have a strong sense of customer service. I don't consider a product or project finished until both I and my client are satisfied with the result. I can get pretty obsessive about it, but I think it is worth it. I love the contact with my clients and hope that when they receive their final product be it a print, a painting, invitation or.... that they open the package and find a smile.

Q: How would someone (other then you) describe you?
Eeps! Uhm, on a good day or a bad day? I'm more than a little bit of a perfectionist which can be both a good and a bad thing. But besides that, I think (hope) people would say I am open-minded (though somewhat strong-minded too) and outgoing and usually wearing a smile. And apparently funny, though I was told recently that I may not realise that I'm funny. I'm still trying to figure out if that's a good thing or not...

Q: What music do you have on while you are creating?
Oh it can vary. A lot! Anything from Amy MacDonald to the Pogues to Mika to Wagner. Really just depends on the day and my mood. I even have Doris Day and Right Said Fred next to each other on my playlist.

Q: What do you do when you aren't working?
Besides running after 3 kids and taking care of the house and dog, I'm also currently studying to become a therapist. I've found a true passion for psychology, just like in art, and my hope is to eventually be able to combine the two and use art as therapy in my practice. Oh, and I'm finally taking an art class because I thought that could be useful. Actually, it's because I'm working on newer paintings and moving in a slightly different direction, but I think Chichiboulie will be around for a while yet!

Q: Please tell us a little about the children's items market / handmade movement in your Country?
I feel like France is catching up when it comes to the handmade movement. When I first arrived here, I found it quite frustrating as there didn't seem to be much going on. Since that time, the market and interest had grown a lot and online shops as well as markets are popping up more and more, especially in the past 2 years. I find there to be quite a big difference in styles between the US, UK, and other English speaking countries and France. It can be a challenge coming up with products to suit both. More often than not, I end up making products specific for each market.

Q: Anything else you'd like to tell us or share?
I think I've chatted myself out actually! Maybe just a big thank you to EtsyKids for all the hard work the team does in promoting handmade children's products. It's a fabulous team with so many creative and ambitious members!

Introducing Stewey75 / Sweet Princess Bowtiqu

Posted Thursday, April 26, 2012

Today We Introduce You To Tammy

Q: What motivated you to start your shop?
In 2007, my daughter Lilli was born and I had the wonderful opportunity to be a stay at home mom. The challenge for me being a stay at home mom was to find an outlet to release my inner creative gene. I became very interested in photography and the photography props similar to the amazing Anne Geddes. I decided to make a silk flower hat and Lilli was my model and from that moment in creating, I haven't looked back and Lil' Flower Hats by Lilli was born! I then started making silk flower mats, silk flower clippies and silk flower bloomers but as Lilli got older, I expanded and Lil' Flower hats by Lilli became Sweet Princess Bowtique.

Q: What is the story behind your shop name?
Lil' Flower hats by Lilli was named after my daughter who was my test model for my first silk flower hat and mat! {Attached is a pictue of Lilli modeling the silk flower mat}

Q: Do you have a favorite Etsy Shop (non-child related)?
I would have to say "LoveJoyCreations". I contacted Brenda, the shop owner of http://www.etsy.com/shop/LovejoyCreations, to hand draw a photograph of Lilli for my Mom as a special gift and she created this beautiful hand drawn picture. I can't thank her enough for the gorgeous picture and my mom has it hanging over the fireplace. It was a great pleasure to work with such a talented woman! http://www.etsy.com/listing/40503027/custom-childrens-or-babys-portrait-in

Q: What surprised you most about having your own craft / online shop?
I think the biggest surprise was how fast the silk flower hat demand became about a month after I started selling them on etsy. I never thought it would be such a big part of my online shop and from that has helped me expand to hair clips and headbands.

Q: What do you find most challenging about being an Etsy seller?
Definitely, the competition. There are so many talented and unique children's accessory shops that as an owner, you have to always be unique and creative with your listings so the customer will notice your product. You also have to constantly come up with new and creative ideas and sometimes that can be tough.

Q: What's your personal philosophy behind your shop / products?
I would have to say my personal philosphy behind my products would be that all my products are for those little ones that love feeling like a princess, who love to have fun, and love to have unique and quality hand made products!

Q: How would someone (other then you) describe you?
They probably would say quite, kind, generous, hard worker, and perfectionist.

Q: What music do you have on while you are creating?
I LOVE music so usually is pop and R&B. My favorites are Lady Gaga, Jessie J, Katy Perry, Usher, FloRida

Q: What do you do when you aren't working?
I'm spending lots of time with Lilli. Luckily, she loves to do crafty things like me! :) I also love to do family genealogy, I find it very rewarding to find out history of your family.

Q: Anything else you'd like to tell us or share?
As a child I was diagnosed and conquered a cruel illness called Leukemia. I grew strong and realized that if I was determined, nothing could stop me. Fast forward through college, work, and marriage, I'm a strong woman living a normal life and with Lillianna being born my world was changed forever. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to start out as stewey75/ Lil' Flower Hats by Lilli and now we have grown to become Sweet Princess Bowtique. Selling products to over 10 different countries, featured on zulilly and now being able to offer our customers a MyRewards program. Seeing my visions become finsihed products makes it all worthwhile. If you put your mind to something, you CAN accomplish it!

Introducing Things by V

Today We Introduce You To Vianca from Things By V

Q: What motivated you to start your shop?
Well, it was between opening a shop on ETSY or probably be featured in the next episode of Hoarders! When ThingsByV first opened in Aug 2011 it was mostly home decor. I was in the middle of trying many different types of crafts so there was a bit of everything. All my stuff was taking over many parts of the house so I made myself a craft room. Then, every corner of my craft room was full of things. So, my walls, shelves and mantels where all full and now, so was my craft room. Instead of taking over another room, I opened an ETSY shop ;)

Q: What is the story behind your shop name?
I have played and made so many different types of things that I thought "Things By V" would be a pretty simple way to explain the randomness when I started my shop. When it first opened you would be able to find from book marks to Vintage window frames. Now, I have been able to bring it in a bit. I focused on Marble Coasters, Burlap Banners and my newest most addicted addition Needle Felted things.

Q: Do you have a favorite Etsy Shop (non-child related)?
Oh I have several! I try to support our ETSY community as much as I can so If I can find it on ETSY I will get it from ETSY! This shop would be my #1 with VERY cute accessories http://www.etsy.com/shop/LoftFullOfGoodies. I can't get enough of this shop http://www.etsy.com/shop/luxely. And I love the rustic primitive feel this shop has http://www.etsy.com/shop/PegandAwl

Q: What surprised you most about having your own craft / online shop?
That strangers thought that things that I made and loved were good enough to pay for! I think many of us do think that the things that we make are nice but when someone comes along, that is NOT related to you ;P and pays you their hard earned cash for it, give you a pretty nice sense of pride.

Q: What do you find most challenging about being an Etsy seller?
The most challenging part would be being able to find the time to share/promote my shop to the world! It's a combination of trying to figure out what the best places and types of promotions are and having the time to do those promotions having also a full time job. I do think I'm getting the hang of it though!

Q: What's your personal philosophy behind your shop / products?
I LOVE nature and I love making things out of natural products. I especially feel very strongly about natural toy, games and play. Natural toys are very basic, non plastic or electronic. The child has to actually use his/hers own imagination to play with them! Sadly, I feel that this is no longer the norm with our children.

Q: How would someone (other then you) describe you?
While you always hope that others will see you in a positive light, I think most see me as a very straight forward person. What you see is what you get!

Q: What music do you have on while you are creating?
Right now I am LOVING Adele! I think she is one of the true singers right now. She will sound as awesome live and on cd. I have many playlists on hand depending on my mood. I think you will find most types of music in those with the exception on heavy metal and punk music. Just was never able to get into that type of music.

Q: What do you do when you aren't working?
Work some more! ;P when I'm not making creations I'm either spending time with family or working my "day job" I work in education with ELL children (English Language Learners). In the summer time while school is out (means no work! Love working in education!) I volunteer at our local children's theater making set and props.

Q: Anything else you'd like to tell us or share?
I live in a suburb of Chicago called Oswego and I'm married to a pretty cool guy ;) We have 2 boys. Jeremy is 9 and Tim is 13. I have recently entered the parent of a teenager world and I really hope I can come out of this alive! Its like when he turned 13 a switch of attitude and opinions was turned on!

Introducing Mini-Mocs

Posted Thursday, April 12, 2012

Today We Introduce You To Annie from Mini Mocs

Q: What motivated you to start your shop?
Well my business actually started as a joint venture between my sister (who's also my bestfriend) and myself back in 2006. We incorporated that year and decided to do large national baby expo show that were open to the public. We had pretty good success at introducing our Mini-Mocs to the world at these shows but learned quickly we needed something to help sustain us when we weren't doing shows. I decided to build a website for on-line sales and the following year we joined the shops of Etsy.

Q: What is the story behind your shop name?
Not much of a story really...I've always loved the barefoot feeling of moccasins and quickly fell in love with designing our soft sole moccasin shoes. They are for little feet...hence the name Mini-Mocs!

Q: Do you have a favorite Etsy Shop (non-child related)?
Too many to choose just one! but I find myself often attracted to art, blown glass, lampwork glass & ceramics shops.

Q: What surprised you most about having your own craft / online shop?
How sometimes people seem to find my shop out of thin air.

Q: What do you find most challenging about being an Etsy seller?
In all honesty I have not yet mastered the Etsy world but the thing I find most troubling is the removal of the promotions forum thread. It has been a long while now since it has been available but it still bothers me. I have found that by doing away with that avenue for shop promotion the Etsy admins have made renewing and relisting and renewing and relisting an absolute must in order to have your shop seen which in turn makes them a boat load more money...don't get me wrong I BELIEVE in being in business to make money but I also believe in "you wash my back I'll wash yours" and Etsy seems to have a REALLY clean back these days! LOL

Q: What's your personal philosophy behind your shop / products?
Three words best describe my products...QUALITY, QUALITY, QUALITY! I could make my Mini-Mocs products at a fractions of the cost if I would compromise on the quality of leathers, suedes and materials I used, but my company name is on each of my products and I can confidently stand behind every item I make.

Q: How would someone (other then you) describe you?
I had to think about this one...so I cheated and asked my mom! She described me as someone who is willing to take chances. Someone who puts others before themselves and someone who rises above difficult situations and doesn't allow the negativity of others to sway my direction.

Q: What music do you have on while you are creating?
I listen to a VERY wide variety of music styles while I'm working but mostly music from the 70's & 80's.

Q: What do you do when you aren't working?
I absolutely love to cook, spend time with family, enjoy the pool & work in my flower gardens...in the winter the yard work and pool gets replaced with a bit of walking on the treadmill and watching movies.

Q: Anything else you'd like to tell us or share?
I'd like to thank you for the invitation to do this interview. I would like to say to all of the EtsyKids Team shop owners stay focused, be true to your vision and support one another when the opportunity presents itself. WE WERE CREATED TO CREATE...SO GO FOR IT!!!

Introducing Marissa V

Posted Thursday, April 05, 2012

Today We Introduce You To Marissa of Marissa V

Q: What motivated you to start your shop?
I started my company, from marissa v., in London in 2005, because I wanted to start my own business, and my hobby was making clothing. Initially it was just women's apparel. I had my own online shop as well as selling to stores. After I moved back to the US in 2008, and had my first daughter, I added a baby line. I subsequently found out about Etsy and created my Etsy shop. My Etsy sales soon surpassed my personal website sales so I closed my online shop. It's great that you don't have to pay a monthly fee on Etsy!

Q: What is the story behind your shop name?
My company's full name is 'from marissa v.' It's a bit awkward to say and write! But I wanted a sort of personal feel to the name - from marissa v. to you.

Q: Do you have a favorite Etsy Shop (non-child related)?
I like looking at the weird, intricate art of Lisel Ashlock http://www.etsy.com/shop/liseljane

Q: What surprised you most about having your own craft / online shop?
It takes a long time to dispatch orders, unless you have a bunch of orders at the same time! I don't have enough room to leave out all my packing/tagging/etc supplies so it takes a while. I don't really build that time into my prices.

Q: What do you find most challenging about being an Etsy seller?
That there is so much stuff on Etsy, I feel like it's hard to get potential customers to notice you. Once they do find me, I get a lot of repeat customers!

Q: What's your personal philosophy behind your shop / products?
The products reflect my modern, often minimalist aesthetic. Many of the baby items are unisex, which reminds me of a more Scandinavian way of dressing children.

Q: How would someone (other then you) describe you?
Motivated but lazy. My husband thinks I'm disorganized, but then he's never cleaned a bathroom.

Q: What music do you have on while you are creating?
Music? I'm so out of touch with what's going on in music! My two girls are listening to an album of Australian kids' songs.

Q: What do you do when you aren't working?
Reading, jogging and crossword puzzles! During holidays, my husband and I torture ourselves by taking our 1 and 3-year-old daughters camping. We also go to England for long periods to visit my husband's family.

Q: Anything else you'd like to tell us or share?
I'm thrilled to appear on the blog!

Introducing Tizzy Dee

Posted Thursday, March 29, 2012

Today We Introduce You To Courtney of TizzyDee

Q: What motivated you to start your shop?
Three years ago my sister bought me a "teach-yourself-to-crochet" book for my birthday. I got a little addicted/obsessed and after multiple requests from friends, I opened my Etsy shop.

Q: What is the story behind your shop name?
The shop is named after my daughter, Tizita Desta. Tizzy Dee is what we used to call her before she joined our family from Ethiopia.

Q: Do you have a favorite Etsy Shop (non-child related)?
I love Paint4Ethiopia. My friend Gina does amazing work with a portion of her proceeds going back into Ethiopia.

Q: What surprised you most about having your own craft / online shop?
I'm always surprised when I get international orders. It's amazing that people all over the world find my little shop and like my creations enough to purchase one!

Q: What do you find most challenging about being an Etsy seller?
It is hard for me to find the time to make all the ideas I have in my head actually come to life.

Q: What's your personal philosophy behind your shop / products?
I try to create everything from my own patterns. I also try to create products that I enjoy making so my customers can see my love and care coming through each item. Almost all my items are custom-created after the order is placed, so each item can be customized by size and color, which makes each item fun and unique for each customer.

Q: How would someone (other then you) describe you?
Outgoing, expressive, fun.

Q: What music do you have on while you are creating?
I usually watch Netflix on my computer. I've burned through all seven seasons of Melrose Place, various wedding and cooking shows, and just started The United States of Tara.

Q: What do you do when you aren't working?
Play with my daughter, hang out with my husband and my family.

Q: Anything else you'd like to tell us or share?
We are an adoptive family and the sales from my shop have significantly helped us with the costs involved in our second adoption. I don't promote my shop as a fundraiser or say that a percentage of my sales are going towards our adoption, but it has been an amazing help! I want people to know that when they purchase from my shop, their money will be well spent. :)

Introducing All Wild Co.

Posted Thursday, March 22, 2012

Today We Introduce You To Nadia of All Wild Co.

Q: What motivated you to start your shop?
I’ve always lived a creative lifestyle. I worked as a fashion designer for some years before starting a family. While staying at home with my children, I felt inspired and encouraged to create something that would try and capture their full of life personalities, innocence and love for nature.

Q: What is the story behind your shop name?
For the shop’s name I took my inspiration from nature - organic, wild. Also I felt it reflected children's' infinite originality and their creative and playful spirit.

Q: Do you have a favorite Etsy Shop (non-child related)?
I love textiles, art and photography. These are some of my favorites:

Q: What surprised you most about having your own craft / online shop?
I found it to be a very rewarding experience having your own online shop. It feels wonderful to see other folks enjoying your designs and workmanship. I’ve also picked up a lot of new skills and met some wonderful people along the way.

Q: What do you find most challenging about being an Etsy seller?
Not enough hours in a day!

Q: What's your personal philosophy behind your shop / products?
I pledge to develop fresh, fun, functional items, and to try my best to make them as eco friendly and safe as possible. All my items are made of either 100% organic cotton, hemp or other unique eco friendly blends. I hand dye with non-toxic dyes and screen print with water-based inks. Always trying to support local business, I strive to source fabrics that have been grown and milled right here in the USA.

Q: How would someone (other then you) describe you?
A little shy, friendly...

Q: What music do you have on while you are creating?
Right now I enjoy music by Of Monsters and Men, Adele, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, and Fleetwood Mac.

Q: What do you do when you aren't working?
I have two children and when not working I devote most of my time to them. However, when ever I get a moment, I like to play piano, try new recipes, and skim through design magazines and blogs.

Q: Anything else you'd like to tell us or share?
I would like to mention how much I’ve enjoyed being a design challenge coordinator for this team. Every month I’m astonished by our members’ creativity and craftsmanship.

Introducing Armadillo Dreams

Posted Thursday, March 15, 2012

Today We Introduce you to Dustin from Armadillo Dreams

Q: What motivated you to start your shop?
There’s a lot of things that motivated us to start the shop. First, our two children Luciana (born March 2007) and Lincoln (born August 2010). We always wanted to be able to provide them with wooden toys, but they were always super expensive. The second was a desire to do woodworking that I discovered during the summer of 2010 while constructing a backyard chicken coop. I had a lot of fun building it and was sad when the project was completed. I then started dreaming up woodworking projects. Other reasons include the desire to be independent and to be able to devote my professional time to something that I truly enjoy.

Q: What is the story behind your shop name?
The name Armadillo Dreams is a long standing inside joke between my wife and I, but does have a deep meaning. I will say that in essence it is our dream of freedom.

Q: Do you have a favorite Etsy Shop (non-child related)?
Yes, The Man Cave (http://mancavesoapworks.etsy.com/)!!! Their men’s shaving and soap products are the best I have ever used and I am really picky about what I use! They all smell very manly without smelling too strong or too generic. I’ve have the least cuts and razor irritation when using their products out of any I have ever used. Highly recommended!

Q: What surprised you most about having your own craft / online shop?
The thing that surprised me the most was the super kind feedback that we have received from customers and admirers. Everyone I have ever heard from has always had nothing but nice things to say about our wooden toys. Most people don’t just stop at a simple compliment either, a lot of our customers love to go into detail about just what they think makes our toys special. Many people will even blog about our products to help us spread the word about Armadillo Dreams. In all of the jobs I have worked at I have never encountered such nice people. Sadly, I used to think people like that didn’t even exist. It’s just so refreshing to know that there are nice people in the world who are willing to take a small amount of time out of their life to tell someone what a good job they did. The world needs more people like Etsy customers!!!

Q: What do you find most challenging about being an Etsy seller?
I would have to say the hardest thing about having an Etsy shop or being a business owner in general is having a work/life balance, especially during the fourth quarter of the year. I can see where it would be really easy to get so into creating and having fun with the business that one might loose sight of their family. I have to remind myself to take breaks and have family time. I’m not perfect at it, but I work hard at it.

Q: What's your personal philosophy behind your shop / products?
We believe it's important for children to have high quality, natural, simple toys that they can dream, imagine and play with.

Q: How would someone (other then you) describe you?
We are both very hard working and driven to succeed. We are also very involved with our children. We have a huge love of the outdoors and are pretty active. I think most people who really know us would describe us the same way.

Q: What music do you have on while you are creating?
We have music on a lot of the time while we are working, but it really varies widely based on the time of the day or what’s going on. Lately it’s been a lot of blue grass. Sometimes it’s rock. Sometimes it’s ambient. Sometimes it’s something in between.

Q: What do you do when you aren't working?
We have tons of hobbies, but just to name a few of the big ones we enjoy spending time with our children, long walks, camping, fishing, geocaching, gardening, beer brewing, cycling and movies. Amanda also enjoys knitting, sewing, garage/estate sales, and graphics design. Some of this does cross over into work though. It’s hard to know when to call something work or not sometimes!

Q: Anything else you'd like to tell us or share?
In addition to our Etsy shop, we will be launching a full shop and blog on our own website http://armadillodreams.com/. Should be up in the next month or two! You can also follow us on Facebook (http://facebook.com/armadillodreams) or Twitter (http://twitter.com/armadillodreams) for news and our daily specials.

Introducing Mia4Art

Posted Thursday, March 08, 2012

Today We Introduce You to Mia from Mia4Art

Q: What motivated you to start your shop?
My children motivated me to start painting children's custom orginal canvases. Before my daughter was born, I was preparing her nursery and was inspired to create original art work. Parents put a lot of work into their children's nurserys with unique, personal, personalized items. I did not want a reprint of children's art for my daughter.

Q: What is the story behind your shop name?
My shop's name on Etsy is Mia4art...My first name, my favorite number and my love for art. My children's painting business is called "Naptime Creations by Mia" because I started my business during my first child's nap time!

Q: Do you have a favorite Etsy Shop (non-child related)?
No, all my favorites are for children .

Q: What surprised you most about having your own craft / online shop?
No surprises yet!

Q: What do you find most challenging about being an Etsy seller?
No challenges, feel that it is user friendly.

Q: What's your personal philosophy behind your shop / products?
I paint each canvas as if it were for one of my babies. I believe in my heart that no customer will be disatisfied. Each canvas grows with their child bringing joy, inspiration and design into nurserys, bedrooms and playspaces.

Q: How would someone (other then you) describe you?
Creative, perfectionist when it comes to designing.

Q: What music do you have on while you are creating?
Carribbean or standup comedy.

Q: What do you do when you aren't working?
Being a mommy to my 3 year old daugther and 1 year old baby boy.

Q: Anything else you'd like to tell us or share?
Prior to painting, I was a Graphic Designer and Elementary Art Teacher. I feel that through working with children and having my own children, I am able to create paintings that inspire and capture chidren's eyes. That my paintings make great gifts for baby showers and birthdays. Perfect for big girl and boy rooms. Please come over to my facebook page and connect with me: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Naptime-Creations-by-Mia/103900334151?sk=wall

Introducing Royal Baby Youngblood

Posted Thursday, February 23, 2012

Today We Introduce You to Anissa from Royal Baby Youngblood

Q: what motivated you to start your shop?
I have always been pretty creative by spending my free time knitting and sewing. A few years ago I knitted a bunch of baby hats for a friend of mine, who is a photographer, and she suggested that I sell them on ETSY.

Q: what is the story behind your shop name?
I always thought of my two daughters as princesses and I apply this idea that everyone’s precious child is Royalty (hence Royal Baby Youngblood). Youngblood is our family name so it fits right into the theme.

Q: do you have a favorite Etsy Shop (non-child related)?
I really enjoy the whimsical fabric prints of SherriFairy. http://www.etsy.com/shop/sherrifairy?ref=seller_info

Q: what surprised you most about having your own craft / online shop?
I had a little bit of apprehension and doubt about selling on-line. I wondered if people would love and buy my products and thankfully I have been able to sell.

Q: what do you find most challenging about being an Etsy seller?
Keeping enough items stocked and finding time to balance designing and producing.

Q: what's your personal philosophy behind your shop / products?
My philosophy is to create fun and colorful items for children that are of heirloom quality. It’s traditional to buy pastels baby items, but I think the right bold color combinations and softer textures are more important.

Q: how would someone (other then you) describe you?
I think people see me as a creative busy body.

Q: what music do you have on while you are creating?
I like to listen to Jazz and Gospel music, but I mostly have the Food Channel on while I’m working. I guess that’s my other creative side.

Q: what do you do when you aren't working?
I am usually napping when I’m not working, because I push myself to exhaustion by crafting until the wee hours of the morning.

Q: anything else you'd like to tell us or share?
I love to share what I create. I think it’s an expression of love.

Introducing Art by Laurie

Posted Thursday, February 09, 2012

Today we introduce you to Laurie of Art by Laurie!

Q: What motivated you to start your shop?
I had mainly been painting commissioned portraits for most of my career. Although I realize how fortunate I am to have made a career from this, I now have the opportunity to expand, paint not only stranger’s faces but whatever I wish. Etsy has given me an outlet to show this work, and to see if there is an interest in my new endeavor.

Q: What is the story behind your shop name?
“Art by Laurie”, although not the cleverest of names, does convey the idea that there is a variety of subject matter. My website “Portraits and Pastels”: http://www.laurieportraits.net/ is the website where I showcased a sampling of my portraits and artwork.

Q: Do you have a favorite Etsy Shop (non-child related)
This is a hard one; there are so many wonderful Etsy shops. I love the shops that feature well crafted and unique designs. This shop, Radiant originals by Julie Campbell, is an example: http://www.etsy.com/shop/radiantoriginals

Q: What surprised you most about having your own craft / online shop?
I didn’t realize how much fun it would be! I have found a connection with so many like minded people from all over the world. There is a genuine camaraderie between Etsy sellers. There is a friendship and a desire to help each other.

Q: What do you find most challenging about being an Etsy seller?
Creating fresh new ideas for paintings that both I can be proud of and that hold an appeal for others.

Q: What's your personal philosophy behind your shop / products?
I draw on my memories and experiences to try and create a story or a connection between the subjects in many of my paintings. There are many paintings about the children in my life. In other pieces I try to give images that create a nostalgic moment or a pleasant memory.

Q: How would someone (other then you) describe you?
Perhaps a little quirky, but I hope I am thought of as kind.

Q: What music do you have on while you are creating?
Well performed music from almost every genre, depending on my mood. From opera crossovers like Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman, all the way over to country music like Zac Brown Band and The Band Perry.

Q: What do you do when you aren't working?
Now that my children have grown and deserted the nest, I enjoy taking day trips with friends, working on my home and garden (Whatever the deer leave for me) and helping out at the hospital ER.

Q: Anything else you'd like to tell us or share?
Without trying to sound like schmoozing, I truly feel that Etsy is a well run, professional website. There is many forms of help and easy to understand quides. All and all I have had a great experience here so far.

Introducing King Soleil

Posted Thursday, February 02, 2012

Today We Introduce You To EtsyKids Team Member Morgan from King Soleil!

Q:  What motivated you to start your shop?
I taught myself how to crochet as a way to wind down from my day as a stay at home mommy. A cup of tea, some super soft yarn, and a hook is all I needed to sooth my soul. I started making clothing and accesories for myself and my children, and rugs for my house, and realized that I went to bed at night thinking about my next pattern and woke up the next morning rearing to go! King Soleil is a way for me to share what I love to do, and continue being a stay at home mommy to my babies. I couldn't feel more lucky!

Q:  What is the story behind your shop name?
My shop name, King Soleil, is named after the loves of my life and ultimate inspirations; my children, King (Kingston) 16 months, and Soleil, 3 years. Soleil gets a kick out of seeing her name on all my tags and site!

Q:  Do you have a favorite Etsy Shop (non-child related)?
Ouma. I am in LOVE with Ouma. One day I will save up to buy one of her amazingly gorgeous dresses. LOVE.

Q:  What surprised you most about having your own craft / online shop?
I think I was most surprised at how much I would love every aspect of running the shop. Before King Soleil, I didn't even know what a tweet was, or how to write a blog. I didn't know how to set up a facebook page. Now I have all those things and more and even designed my own website! I love promoting, editing my pictures, researching, and above all, creating. I never thought this business could compete with my previous job, as a family and adolescent at-risk counselor. But I honestly feel happier...like this is what I was meant to do. ::smile::

Q:  What do you find most challenging about being an Etsy seller?
I have so many ideas, books and books filled with patterns and sketches, and baskets of products, but i just don't have the time to put them all online. Making a product is one thing, photographing, editing, writing up a description, and promoting them all, is quite another. Maybe one day, I will post them all, but then again, by that time I will most likely have twice as many baskets and books filled with ideas. C'est la vie.

Q:  What's your personal philosophy behind your shop / products?
It is all about balance. It is so important to have a sense of balance in one's life, and I use this as an esthetic when designing, above anything else. For instance, when making my rugs, if I want to add a detailed cherry branch with flowers, the rest of the rug is super simple. A rug with no appliques? Uber bright. Same idea as my accessories, keep it modern and simple, but fun and unexpected. Old school embroidery hoop art? Let's add a big mustache. Mix it up, but keep it classic. Balance.

Q:  How would someone (other then you) describe you?
An old soul. At 27, with my 2 babies, curled up on my couch in my little cottage with my crochet hooks and yarn balls scattered around, a steaming cup of tea, and Norah Jones playing in the background, I am in heaven. At age 10, my mother would constantly remind me that she is, in fact, the parent. In high school, I met my now husband. During college at Tulane University in New Orleans, I chose board games, jazz clubs and cajun restaurants over Mardis Gras craziness, well, MOST of the time :)

Q:  What music do you have on while you are creating?
It's either Norah Jones calmess that brings back days of living in Manhattan, or Dirty Heads reggae / rap that reminds me of my beach days living in Hawaii and Miami. Both make me super happy and each set of memories helps inspire different products. Cherry Tree rug? Flower Cowl? Dirty Heads. Modern Dandelion Rug? Snow Bunny Skirt and Cowl? Norah Jones.

Q:  What do you do when you aren't working?
This is kind of a trick question because my two jobs, running King Soleil, and being a mommy never really end. I suppose if I am not crocheting, promoting, or chasing babies, I like to think of my next travel destination, hike, look through house listings (my 5 year goal is to buy a house), and get a foot rub from my super cute husband ::wink wink::

Q:  Anything else you'd like to tell us or share?
Thank you for sharing this little bit of insite into the world of King Soleil and my family. EtsyKids is peachy keen!
