UGH~hee hee

Those of you who follow on facebook and twitter know that Ive been trying to de-clutter my sewing space....(((twitch))) so I started last night on the top two shelves. This picture is half of my room. I have more shelves on the other side and cubbys.

So It was unbelievable how much fabric I hade that I dont even like?! Whats up with that! So Ive split it up and Im giving to several friends and hopefully they wont hoard it as I did ;)
So I found THIS AWESOME TUTORIAL on folding fabric for storage and honey boo its changed my life! I have so many different size pieces that its always been a terrible mess to keep it all stacked. But not anymore! AND I tried it on Tshirts and it works beautifully! Cant wait to hit the kids closet lol!

You can see in this picture the top two shelves I referred to earlier - The left side, my vintage fabrics, I did before the tutorial - and the right side I did after the tutorial - and please believe I will be re-doing the vintage. I hope this is helpful for lots of you - Im THRILLED! Ill be sure to post pictures after I am finished (and hopefully it will look like this!! Smooches!

Crafting A Business

Posted Saturday, February 13, 2010

My Rock out SIL got me a book for my birthday that I had been wanting since it came out! Crafting a business by Country Living/Kathie Fitzgerald. It highlights 31 women entrepreneurs who have been successful in creating a business (including Amy Butler) and shares their tips and suggestions and advice - I've only started reading it but I LOVE it and I will be giving it as gifts for some women in my life!

I wanted to share two things that have really stood out to me in the first two chapters.

1. A quote from Winston Churchill that is one of Denise Carpentier's favorites. Denise makes Pearlware Pottery in Averill Park NY.
'What we get, is how we make a living; what we give, is how we make a life.'

2. A quote from Liz Alpert Fay who makes hand hooked rugs in Sandy Hook Connecticut.
'Sometimes people tell you that you can't do things because maybe they can't do them.'I will share interesting things from the book as they catch my eye. I hope everyone is having a terrific weekend! SMoochES!

A Sign of Punishment

Posted Monday, February 08, 2010

A few years ago, a local mom was both blasted and hailed at the same time, for her unique punishment technique. Her teenage son refused to do his homework, so she sent him out to stand on the street corner with a sign that said something along the lines of "I didn't do my homework so I'm being punished by holding this sign." The local media interviewed her and her son and laughed about the whole scenario. Other parents thought it was too humiliating. Personally, I think it was genius.

Oh yes, I'm THAT type of mom. For us, timeouts and revoked toys generally do the trick around here, but this morning, Peri refused to get dressed for school. For a good half hour I repeatedly told her she needed to get ready and for the entire half hour she just stood around in her underwear and dawdled. Eventually I'd had enough and told her I was going to pick out her clothes if she wouldn't. She hates it when I do this and usually throws a stink when I make her wear clothing I picked out.

This is one of those moments where you can't use timeout unless you want to spend the morning with your child instead of sending them to school. And personally, I LOVE school and the couple hour break it provides. So timeout was not an option.

As usual, Peri threw a fit when I tried to dress her in the outfit I picked out. We had about five minutes before we had to leave so I ended up throwing up my hands and said, "Fine, you're wearing jammies today." So I put her pajamas back on and made her get shoes and socks. She was not happy wearing the jammies and sulked all the way to the car. And since I didn't want anyone to think her wardrobe was a personal choice, I made a sign. Oh yes, I did. Peri wore a sign to school today and when she walked in, both of her teachers just laughed. Fortunately, Peri was in better spirits by then and wanted to show everyone her new ladybug shoes, so no emotional damage done to her ego.

And hopefully, come Wednesday, we don't have to do the getting dressed tango because I could get used to these punishment signs. Don't mess with mom, she's full of "fun" ideas. :oP

Her sign says "I refused to get dressed, so I'm stuck wearing jammies."

Im Back in the Eworld FINALLLLLLY!!!!! :)

Posted Saturday, February 06, 2010

Hi Sweets! I have been offline (except via my phone) for the last 4 months and OMG!!! I thought I was gonna DIE! But as of 2 days ago I'm back online with a brand new laptop and Im so Excited!! Ive been up until 2am almost every morning playing and catching up!

So! lets see...whats new here - we have been buried under snow for the last 2 months - we just had a new storm roll through on Friday and there is another coming on Tuesday - sheesh! They have taken 2 days of the kids spring break (((UGH)))) I hate it when they do that! I wish they would just let them make it up on Saturday or take it off their summer break. We are actually going on vacation this year!

I've become completely addicted to the movie Julie and Julia. I rented it 3 times then bought it when I got paid and its pretty much been going non stop on my dvd for weeks. I just put the settings on repeat. The kids know it- line for line! LOL! So Roman - the 8 year old - says to me last week "mom, if butter is so bad for you how did Julia live to be 92 and Paul 94?" :) So I had to think for a second b/c im the one preaching to not eat so much butter - but what I realized is that we dont eat butter - we eat margerine - which is only a couple of molecules away from being plastic. So I've started a new 'real food' campaign in my house - no more rubber or plastic food!

And in that spirit I thought I'd share one of the real recipes that my kids LOVE they would absolutely eat it 7 days a week! I've been making it for 10 years and its the best broccoli and cheese on the planet - no plastic butter or rubber cheese - its all real and all in the microwave! DE-LISH!

Ingredients: 2 bags broccoli Florettes
1 stick butter
1 large bag colby/jack cheese

-put 1 bag of broccoli into a casserole dish/slice butter up on top of it/ then add the 2nd bag of broccoli on top
-cover with plastic wrap and microwave for 10 minutes/let set for 2 minutes when finished
-drain water from broccoli(very important)
-toss in 3/4 bag of cheese - mix it in well then top with the remaining 1/4 bag of cheese
-re-cover with the plastic wrap and microwave another 10 minutes
YOU'RE DONE!
(it will be super hot when its finished to let is set for a couple minutes)

By the way...if there are any Julie and Julia fans in the house - I found the recipe for the delicious looking bruchetta that Julie fixes for herself and Eric the night she decides to actually start a blog. You can see the recipe here!

AND I just bought Julia Childs book 'My life in France' last weekend and so far it's a GREAT read!

...and just for fun - and Valentines Day...look at thes adorable hearts I've been making! I doing homemade Valentines this year and these little cuties will be the front! If you crochet - this is for you - they take less than 2 minutes to create! Ive made all size and with all types of yarn!
